08.08.08 : more god

i just got back from ireland, but i did have some time prior to that to work on the avatar. yeah, i'm pretty slow. but i went with a color scheme to match the rest of the zahr-tann. he's an earthy brown with some red/yellow molten highlights. the armor is all brassy with golden shine. it seems to fit pretty well. i'll also be doing the gemstones blue like the rest of the army. his sword is currently in progress.

08.06.20 : bloody-handed god

here's a shot of the avatar in progress. the sunburst yellow in the veins had a touch or fiery orange around the edges. then i went over it with a thin coat of blood red. doesn't look half bad i suppose. i'll probably highlight certain areas with thin coats of white. this should make the veins look quite bright. he's got a ways to go and i don't have much time to work on him, but it's still good enough to test out when next i play. after this torso is complete, the arms are next. nothing fancy there, just more of the same.

since i never really showed off the vypers (as they are not completed) here's some shots of what they currently look like. as with the wraithlord, i'll be using magnets for the weapons in the rear. granted the rear hasn't even began to be painted, but the base vyper and pilot are practically complete. after a set of highlights, they'll be good to go. i've also decided to add two more to their number - since they seem to be doing quite well in battles. turns out holo-shields are ridiculous.

08.07.19 : gaming

so baharroth pretty much sucks. i might be so bold as to say he is completely useless. at a cost of 200 points, it'd be better spent on tombstones for the eldar. or whatever they do with their dead (gems for their jewelry). while his stats are pretty great, he really only adds in the hit and run ability. this ability is really only a backup plan too. the hawks shouldn't be getting into close combat. so really he only adds in an extra three weapon shots from firing... for two hundred points. he's a sack. oh and no inv save doesn't help a whole lot in close combat when power weapons are in play.

ah well. looks like i'm going to replace him with an avatar. my wraithlord needs a friend to crush all who oppose. i'm not quite sure how i'm going to end up painting the avatar, but so far i've got a yellow brown setup for the base coats. yellow in the 'veins' and brown on the earthen plates. i'll be adding red gore over the top of most of the brown, hopefully giving it a burning look. but we shall see. i'll try to setup some pics soon.

oh, i did manage to pick up the new apocalypse reload expansion. it seems that baharroth won't end up being completely useless. in addition to his own datasheet, he can be used (in conjunction with every other phoenix lord) to summon the avatar helping to lay down a physical beating.

08.06.28 : eldar pictures

first off, let me apologize for my shitty camera. but it should hopefully suffice for the shots off my eldar. anyway, that's a shot of my farseer. that model ended up being my first real mod. i had an extra bike from the eldar windrider host (didn't make the autarch) box. so i ended up sawing him in half and creating some flowing robes from green stuff. his lower half is composed of a standard jetbike rider. check out the farseer page for a few more shots including some closeups.

the fodder of my speedy force is currently composed of nine jetbikes. they pretty much die a horrible, but quick, death at the first sign of danger. i'm pretty sure that means i don't know what i'm doing with them. these guys are almost completely done with the painting. i think all that is left is to add the glyph to the nose of the jetbike. maybe add a couple more highlights to brighten things up, but ultimately, they're good to go. i do want to add some magnets to connect them to the bases. that'll allow for an easy transport to the game store and ensure the bases don't fall off whem i move them.

ah, the trusty wraithlord. so far this guy has proven to be quite useful. ridiculous toughness and strength mean he'll stay alive through just about everything. i've rigged him up with a large number of magnets to allow for easy customization. his torso can pivot, the hands can be removed (to allow for an optional sword) and he's got two weapon slots on his shoulders. so far i've ran him with a starcannon on one shoulder and a bright lance on the other (trying to get more firepower at the cost of having twin linked weapons). but i think next time i play i'll swap out the right fist for a sword. the only things that i glued on are the two wrist flamers. i figure i'd rather have those in most instances over the low-rent shuriken catapults. also, with the 5th ed coming out, the flamers will remove that precious cover save. you can check out more of senior wraithlord here, and see some other pictures of him with different equipment.

also of note is the complete lack of any base work (minus a little preparation effort on the wraithlord). i plan on using an autumn color scheme for almost everything. it'll give the appearance of being in a thick forest full of leaves. which sounds flowerly and elf-like so it should be a good fit.

one last guy, baharroth. he has the capabilities to be pretty cool. i mean he looks cool right? that's pretty much how i base what i should use for my army anyway. unfortunately, that means i may be crumpled easily. anyway, he leads the swooping hawks. i have some of them primed, but still need to spend some time painting them (pathfinders first!). due to the metalic look, he was actually quite easy to paint. ultimately he's the one model in the eldar that i have finished (base aside). i've only got a couple shots of him, but check them out.

08.06.22 : eldar zahr-tann

shunning my former dark angels, i started making an eldar army. i'm using the alternate scheme of the zahr-tann (basically a bunch of bestial brown and black). you can see the original guardian on the gw site after a little digging. since i really didn't want to add some vines or other organic looking detail, i decided to just throw one solid grey stripe across the vehicles. i think it ended up looking pretty good, or at least enough for me to continue with the process. the gw site didn't post any sort of glyph for them, so i made my own up. or rather, i stole something i saw in a mignola b.p.r.d. book (1842 if i recall?) and changed it very slightly due to esthetic reasons. came up with the image to the right:

so far i've collected a speedy force. a bunch of jetbikes (one with a farseer riding it) and some vypers for the core of it. then miscelanious other fast attack choices: hawks w/barroth and warp spiders. for heavy support i'll be using two fire prisms and a wraithlord. since i wanted some more troop choices filled out i've also just snagged some rangers (will be upgraded to pathfinders).

i'll upload some pictures of what i currently have in a couple days. maybe even take some shots of my dark angels as well... we shall see.
